F.P. Journe 10 Years Anniversary Tourbillon

F.P. Journe 10 Years Anniversary Tourbillon

The timepieces of F.P. Journe, known as “the watchmaker’s watchmaker” are widely sought after, with only the lucky few able to obtain one out of his very limited production. François-Paul Journe himself has therefore found a most equitable way to distribution his 10 Years Anniversary Tourbillon – by draw. With one watch only per each of F.P. Journe’s boutiques worldwide, the master watchmaker says, “Our ten boutiques have each proposed us candidates among our faithful collectors, and the names of the 10 lucky clients were randomly selected by draw during our annual fair last week in Geneva.” The watch is READ MORE

Best Calendar Watches of SIHH 2014

Creating annual calendar and perpetual calendars is a special challenge, because there is so much information to place on a dial: day, date, month, and in the case of the perpetual calendar, leap year indicator, and there is often a power reserve and a moonphase indicator. These watches demonstrate completely new ways of presenting this information, such as the Cartier Astrocalendaire, or unique arrangements that play with traditional displays, such as the Baume & Mercier Clifton Retrograde. Combined functions are another trend. Both Lange & Söhne and Jaeger-LeCoultre combine the complication with a tourbillon. The IWC places the complication in READ MORE

Haute Time Ladies Watch of the Week: Van Cleef & Arpels Astronomique Poetique Midnight Constellation

Van Cleef & Arpels was inspired by constellations in the night sky for this year’s Extraordinary Dials Midnight Constellations collection, crafting a series of ladies’ timepieces that depict some of the most well known starry compositions. This one, the Phoenix, is a dazzling work of art that includes champlevé and vallonné enamel in fiery tones ranging from yellow to orangey-red, highlighted by diamond stars. The crown is set with a carnelian, and the bezel and lugs are set with round diamonds. The watch will be produced in a limited edition of 22 pieces. The legend of the Phoenix in mythology READ MORE

SIHH 2014: Vacheron Constantin’s Skeletonized Masterpieces

Vacheron Constantin demonstrated, among many other talents, the art of skeletonization throughout its collections at this year’s SIHH. The new pieces in the Patrimony Traditionnelle 14-day Tourbillon Openworked, Méchanique Ajourées, Metiers d’Art Fabuleux Ornements and Malte Tourbillon Openworked collections all featured intricately decorated skeletonized movements. In general, the endeavor is a tribute to the early openworked pocket watches made by Jean-Marc Vacheron, with other influences. For example, the engraving on the Caliber 4400SQ of the Méchanique Ajourées watches is inspired by the openworked architecture of 19th century railway stations. Caliber 2260SQ, in the Patrimony Traditionnelle 14-day Tourbillon Openworked was inspired by READ MORE
