Maserati MC20: A Bit Of Colour, A Lot of Speed

If 2020 began bumpily, it’s become smooth towards the end. The Maserati universe has the second sports car Maserati MC20 that is a car with a sporty soul and a luxurious body. Presented on 9th September in Modena during the “MMXX: Time to be audacious” event, the sports car is the successor to 2004 Maserati MC12.

While Maserati contribution to the high-performance GT cars is undeniable the MC20 (MC for Maserati Corse and 20 for 2020) combining performance, sportiness and luxury in the unique Maserati style. Its predecessor the MC12 was loosely based on Ferrari’s Enzo. Thus, the Italian masterpiece leaves behind the Ferrari imprint (for obvious reasons), ditching the V12 engine for the new 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 called “Nettuno” capable for a 621 horsepower V6 with a torque of 730 Nm (538 lb-ft). With a weight of less than 1500kg, it would deliver 0-100 km/h acceleration in under 2.9 seconds with a top speed over 325 km an hour. The car also possesses the MTC (Maserati Twin Combustion) technology, ground-breaking combustion system developed in-house and patented by Maserati.

With a hyper-powered heart, the external features of the Maserati are just as impressive. The swing-up butterfly doors, sleek lines and majestic masculine stance is a definite attention grabber. The exceptional aerodynamics – designed over two thousand man-hours and ergonomics has the drag of less than 0.38. The MC20 is designed to enable coupé and convertible versions and for full-electric power. The new age Maserati also includes 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, electronic driver aids including the latest generation antilock brakes, stability control as well as multi-mode traction control.

On the inside, Maserati focuses on the ambience along with the driving experience. The two 10 inch screens: one for the cockpit and the other for the Maserati Multimedia System (MIA) are simple forms very few sharp edges and minimal distractions. The carbon fibre-clad central console has the regular features like driving mode selector (GT, Wet, Sport, Corsa and a fifth, ESC Off, which deactivates the control functions), full connected navigation, multimedia system controls, Alexa integration, Wifi Hotspot, and a handy storage compartment underneath the armrest.

The Maserati MC20 has developed six new colours to characterize MC20: Bianco Audace, Giallo Genio, Rosso Vincente, Blu Infinito, Nero Enigma and Grigio Mistero. Each of them conveys important themes: a strong reference to Made in Italy, to Italian identity and to the land, as well as one linked to Maserati tradition.
