Gresham Yacht Design’s Thor takes the yachting world into the future

Straight out of a sci-fi movie, the Gresham Yacht Design’s latest explorer yacht, Thor is a true specimen. Ahead of its peers, the 100-metre explorer motor yacht began its design process from the interiors and worked outwards.

The superyacht utilises organic shapes throughout the vessel to create harmony and continuity. The large nautilus windows blur the lines between the guests and nature. The upper level is the mission control centre where an owner and guests can plan their adventures as well as monitor the day’s activities as they unfold. In the centre of this space is a sunken seating area that floats between the decks. The deck features a futuristic skylight that sits directly above and carries the same visual language to bring warmth and doesn’t feel impersonal.

To create maximum opulence within the gives space in the main saloon, Thor uses floating glass floors supported by exposed structural beams. The result is a light and spacious saloon with superior views out to sea and a central lighting feature that draws the eye in. When in need of privacy, the glass floors can be turned opaque by a push of a button to visually separate the top level from the lower half of the main saloon. This area offers all the amenities and comfort one would expect with the inclusion of a lounge bed, bar and central seating area with additional seating provided to starboard.

A captivating circular corridor with an aquarium on either side takes you to the beach club. The aquatic life housed within the floor-to-ceiling cylindrical aquarium adds a unique touch to the corridor. This large beach club is positioned high above the waterline and includes fold-down balconies, offering outstanding views and enhanced security. The Thor Explorer can host up to 36 guests with the guest suites located at the lower deck. The owner’s suite on the other hand is situated on the upper deck which also includes a his-and-hers bathroom, office and walk-in wardrobe.

The garage of the yacht can be seen and accessed via a large bi-folding glass door and can carry any and all tenders and toys including a 12.5-metre custom tender, hydrofoil speedboat, submarine and a host of kite and windsurfing equipment, diving equipment, surfboards and Jetskis. When travelling to extreme environments like the Antarctic and Arctic, would be able to protect the chopper with safety missions, not to mention activities like heli-skiing.

Behind the masculine exterior that includes an Ice Class hull, is a high volume superyacht equipped with all the technology and hardware you would expect of a true explorer.
