Winding Down The Summer With The Richard Mille RM 67-02

As we enter September, the days are already noticeably shorter, and the sun is losing its power. Many try to hang on to the summer just a little bit longer, participating in activities that make summar always such an enjoyable time. A watch that shares this sentiment is the RM 67-02 by Richard Mille. While the brand has far more complicated creations, it is this time-only watch that in many ways represents the essence of what they are all about.

Richard Mille RM 67-02
The RM 67-02 is one of the slimmest creations of Richard Mille. Due to the shape of the case, it sits exceptionally comfortable on the wrist. Its wearing comfort is increased further by the unique ‘comfort strap’ which is seamless and elastic to ensure an always perfect fit. This makes wearing this Richard Mille an extraordinary experience, also because it weighs only 32 grams, with the strap included.

There are two aspects of this watch that, next to the strap, contribute significantly to its low weight. The first is caliber CRMA7, which features a skeletonized main plate and bridges made from grade 5 titanium. It has a height of only four millimeters, but apart from its technical features is it visually stunning to behold as well. This is also true for the oscillating weight, which is made from Carbon TPT with a white gold segment for added weight so that it winds ever so effecient.

The tonneau-shaped case, a hallmark of Richard Mille, is crafted from Carbon TPT for the case-band and Quartz TPT for the front and the back.  These unique materials are created by separating carbon and silica threads and placing them in sheets that are no thicker than 45 microns. These sheets are placed in a 45-degree angle in relation to the layer below it, saturated by a special resin and heated to 120 degrees celsius under a 6 bar pressure. The result is a material that is light and strong, and also has a unique texture.

For this particular RM 67-02, Richard Mille opted for a beautiful crimson and white color palette. This is a reference to the flag of Qatar as this specific watch was developed for Mutaz Barshim, world champion high jump and two-times Olympic medalist. While many of us will not demand as much from their watch as he does, the fact is that the RM 67-02 is the perfect watch to enjoy those last rays of the summer sun with.
