Watch of the Week: Glashütte Original PanoMaticLunar
Glashütte Original is a brand that is deeply rooted in the rich tradition of German watchmaking, yet always with eyes on the future. This makes their timepieces honor the past while shaping the future. The PanoMaticLunar is the perfect example of this, capturing attention through its rich, red gold case, combined with a vibrant green dial, featuring an asymmetrical design.
Glashütte Original obtained the perfect proportions. While it measures 40mm in diameter, it looks slightly larger on the wrist, thanks to the modest stepped bezel. This gives center stage to the dial, with its unique, vibrant green color with fume-effect. However, this is only part of what makes the PanoMaticLunar so attractive. With its off-center design, it highlights the different functions, further increasing legibility, and invites you to take them all in and enjoy their details. They are plentiful as Glashütte Original paid particular attention to each of the watch functions. The lance-shaped gold hands are filled with Super-LumiNova so time can also be read in the dark, and its dial is flanked by an oversized date and moon phase. Glashütte Original sculpted the windows around these complications, introducing a sense of depth that naturally draws your eye to them. As the height of the PanoMaticLunar is 12.7mm, it has substance without becoming too heavy or too thick, significantly contributing to its superb wearing comfort.
While the front of the PanoMaticLunar is a thing of beauty, the aim of the back is to rival this. Here we get a full view of Caliber 90-02. This movement is made in the brand’s manufacture in the charming town of Glashütte, in Germany. It is nothing short of breathtaking with its three-quarter plate, which is traditional to the region, topped with a skeletonized oscillating weight set with a 21-carat gold segment. The balance wheel is placed below two swan-neck fine adjustments that sit on a hand-engraved balance bridge. Blued screws, fine striping, and chamfered edges give further refinement to the movement, making it the perfect engine to power the stunning watch that the PanoMaticLunar is.
