Ulysse Nardin Unveils First In-House Caliber for Women

Luxury watchmaker Ulysse Nardin has designed and produced its first in-house self-winding caliber for women. The Caliber UN-310 is housed in the Swiss manufacture’s new Jade timepiece, with uniquely feminine details like a crown that does not require pushing or pulling to set the date and time, all the better to preserve a lady’s manicure.

Ulysse Nardin undertook the design of this new caliber at the behest of Chai Schnyder, the Chairwoman of Ulysse Nardin. Eleven years ago, Snyder requested a movement designed specifically for women from her late husband Rolf Schnyder (then President and CEO of Ulysse Nardin). Today, it is finally ready for her, complete with manicure-proof design. The Caliber UN-310 features a pusher at four o’clock which adjusts the function of the crown; winding (Position 1); setting the date forwards and backwards (Position 2); and setting the time (Position 3). Each manipulation is then made by turning the crown forwards or backwards, without any need to pull it out.

The first timepiece to be graced by the presence of the Caliber UN-310 is the Jade. True to its name, this model features its namesake gemstone, with four green jade horns that flank the bezel, a ring of emeralds and diamonds in the a snow-setting. The mother-of-pearl dial is also adorned with diamonds. At its heart, silicium technology was used in the development of the base caliber, escapement wheels and Swiss anchor.
