Ulysse Nardin Unites Form And Function In The Executive Skeleton X Collection

At Ulysse Nardin, they write innovation in capital letters. What makes the brand so interesting is that they not only apply this philosophy on their movements but many of their designs as well. A perfect example of this is Executive Skeleton X. Traditionally are skeleton watches dominated by their movement for obvious reasons, but Ulysse Nardin has found a way to unite this aspect with an equally enticing case. More so, their design even incorporates a skeletonized dial, that hides hardly anything but does add a nice dose of functionality to the mix.

With the Executive Skeleton X, there is no choice between form or function, as it is both at the same time. At the heart of the watch we find manufacture caliber UN-371. This movement is, in fact, a redesigned caliber UN-171, and every detail can be admired. Then you notice that not only the quality of the finishing is very high, but also that it is equipped with the silicium balance wheel from the Freak Vision. It comes complete with stabilizing micro-blades and nickel flyweights, and is quite spectacular to see in action.

The Executive Skeleton X only has a single mainspring barrel, yet offers a power reserve of 96-hours. The movement is manual wind, and when you think that the front is cool, with its X-shaped frame, then you will also like the back. Here it becomes even more evident that Ulysse Nardin is an innovator who loves to make avant-garde watches and movements, but that its roots can be found in traditional watchmaking.

The brand opted for a 42mm diameter of the case. As a result, is the Executive Skeleton X above all a very wearable creation. The case is somewhat restrained in its design, for a Ulysse Nardin that is, but the lugs add just that little bit extra. The watch is available in a few very different case materials, which each have a character of their own. With a titanium case and blue PVD bezel is it a refreshing, light sports watch, while the titanium with all black finish gives the Executive Skeleton X a more understated look. Rose gold with blue accents has over the years become a typical Ulysse Nardin combination, which also looks exceptionally good with the Executive Skeleton X. Ulysse Nardin also likes to innovate with materials which is evident with the Carbonium® gold case in a matte finish. It highlights the technical nature of a watch that does not like to compromise, from a brand that shows that you also don’t have to.
