Three Blue Dials From Three Haute Watchmakers
Whether you prefer Azure, Air Force, or Royal Blue, you’re sure to appreciate the beauty of these dials and the functions they display.
The 42.5 mm Overseas Chronograph 5500V/110A – B148 from Vacheron Constantin is powered by one of three new calibres developed for the reinvented Overseas collection: Calibre 5200, a self-winding twin-barrel chronograph movement with 52 hours of power reserve. With a column wheel that coordinates the chronograph’s start, stop and reset functions, and vertical coupling clutch, it powers the hours, minutes, seconds, chronograph and date that are all displayed on the translucent blue dial with luminescent gold facetted hands and hour-markers. This stainless steel model comes with three easily interchangeable bracelets, in stainless steel, rubber and alligator leather.
Certified Hallmark of Geneva, 22K gold oscillating weight visible through the sapphire crystal back, anti-magnetic protection, water resistant to 150 meters.
From June 2016. €31,000.
This Big Pilot’s Watch “Top Gun” Ceramic Reference 1W502003 from IWC Schaffhausen – a special limited edition of 250 pieces with black ceramic case, new brown calfskin strap and blue sunray dial – is destined for the Rodeo Drive boutique in Miami (to be confirmed if other boutiques might be able to order one of these).
With a case reduced from 48 to 46 mm x 15 mm – the original case that housed the Pellaton winding system patented by IWC in 1946 measured 60mm and was worn by pilots on their thighs – , the dial has also been revised for a clean, uncluttered look featuring large Arabic numerals, power reserve display at 3 o’clock and date at 6 o’clock.
Calibre 51111. Pellaton automatic winding with 7 days power reserve. Anti-magnetic protection. Special back engraving. Water-resistant 6 bar.
From November 2016. €16,600 subject to change.
Parmigiani Fleurier’s 20th anniversary commemorative split-second chronograph – the Tonda Chronor Anniversaire – features a new integrated chronograph movement that includes chronograph, split-second function and large date all on the same plate, and 2 column wheels – one for the chronograph and one for the split seconds – with a vertical clutch. The 64 hours power reserve manually-wound gold movement PF361, decorated with Côtes de Genève and Michel Parmigiani’s signature on the barrel, is housed in a 3 part 42.10mm x 14.6mm round case in rose gold with commemorative engraving on the sapphire back, and a grand feu enamel dial that is oh so Royal Blue.
Limited edition 25 pieces. From June. €128,600.
