TAG Heuer Launches the New Aquaracer Black Titanium in Ibiza
“Ibiza is to Electro (Dance) Music as Baselworld is to watches: ultra-competitive, very high level, and the quintessence of the industry!” These words were pronounced by Superstar DJ David Guetta, who with fellow Star DJ Martin Garrix, only 20 years old and already a legend in the EDM world, celebrated the official launch in Ibiza last week-end of the new Aquaracer Black Titanium with nylon strap from TAG Heuer. Both DJs are brand ambassadors, and both, with their millions of social network fans, know the pressure they feel to stay on top.
Like the new 43 mm Aquaracer Black Titanium that is water resistant to 300 Meters, they “#DontCrackUnderPressure”, a motto that, while created by the watch brand in the 1990s and revived in 2014, has been relevant since 1892, when the brand’s founder Edouard Heuer filed the very first patent in the history of watchmaking for a watertight case.
Welcomed to the event by CEO of TAG Heuer and Chairman of the Watch Division of the LVMH Group Jean-Claude Biver, the exclusive crowd of 80 clients and members of the press was in for a surprise after the press conference, as 8 top footballers of La Liga: Albert Luque, Michel Salgado, Joan Capdevila, Aitor Ocio, Fernando Morientes, Gaizka Mendieta, Marcos Senna et Fernando Sanz, joined in on the fun for a TAG Heuer Football Challenge with Guetta and Garrix in goal, and Jean-Claude Biver as referee.
Created by the brand in 2013, the Aquaracer collection has developed to include timepieces for all kinds of extreme conditions, including diving and other seafaring activities. Featuring a ceramic uni-directional rotary bezel, with twelve sides and six studs, screw-down crown, large luminous indications on the indexes and hands for improved visibility and screw-down case back engraved with a diver’s helmet, the Aquaracer is immediately recognisable.
So what’s new? The 43 mm case of this 2016 Aquaracer Black Titanium is made of Grade 2 titanium with black titanium carbide coating, while its ceramic bezel shows off a new design that features engraved numerals with blue lacquer and a Super Luminova™ dot at 12 o’clock. Through the sapphire crystal with antireflective, scratch-resistant coating, we see a striking matt black dial with striations, and the date at 3 o’clock under a window magnifier (reintroduced last year).
The “TAG Heuer” logo and “Aquaracer” are printed at 12 o’clock; an inscription at 6 o’clock reads “CALIBRE 5 – AUTOMATIC 300M/1000FT”.
This timepiece that is as eye-catching as it is functional is completed with a blue nylon strap with black topstitching and a rubber inner, closed with a black titanium folding buckle with black titanium carbide coating and a push-piece safety mechanism.
It is driven by the TAG Heuer Automatic Calibre 5 with Date.
Available in 3 in three colourways: blue, black-and-red, and sand-coloured, the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Black Titanium is available from September in boutiques worldwide, priced at EUR2,500.
