Tag Heuer Ambassador Cara Delevingne Auctions Watch For Charity After Death Of Cecil The Lion

After the sudden and tragic death of Cecil the lion, Tag Heuer ambassador Cara Delevingne auctioned off her personal Tag Heuer Carrera Signature Edition watch on Ebay, raising $14,430 for WildCRU.com, a research unit that worked with scientists from the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit. The Wildlife Conservation Research Unit works to protect wild lions in Africa and had studied Cecil since 2008. Tag Heuer matched the amount raised by the watch auction, resulting in a combined $28,900 donation. The funds raised will contribute to the organization’s in-depth study of lion movements through satellite trackers, support of field equipment and staff, and training future conservationists.

The timepiece was auctioned off ahead of its official release in September, and Delevingne has worn it frequently, including during the Monaco F1 Grand Prix. The watch’s case is made from steel coated with black titanium carbide while the 41 mm diameter dial is surrounded by 72 Wesselton white diamonds. The piece is engraved with “Cara Delevingne Edition” and is stamped with a lion’s head on the back. The watch’s strap is crafted from aged black calfskin and bares Delevingne’s signature in rose gold on the inside.

Delevingne has always exhibited a special passion for lions. The actress was born under the Leo star sign and bares a now iconic lion tattoo on her finger.
