Stripped: Diamonds In The Raw
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend or so Marilyn Monroe claimed back in 1949. But why? No one has ever dared question her. Is it because of their purity, or because of their rarity? After all, those qualities are the embodiment of luxury. Or maybe we just don’t want to risk losing our shiny friends…From Chopard to Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Dior, Chanel or De Grisogono, here’s what they have given us.
Diamond Cuffs
From left to right, Van Cleef and Arpels presents the Palmyre, a bracelet set with five lines of brilliant-cut diamonds on a white gold frame that can be paired with a matching necklace. Chopard keeps it simple with a tennis bracelet – that’s how they call it – made with 28 diamonds worth 40 carats. Finally, Cartier’s diamond bracelet is white gold work of art, set with diamonds as a bangle to be worn on its own.
Lucky Number Seven
Fully paved with diamonds and set on white gold, the Zebra ring features seven lines of diamonds. And that number isn’t chosen at random. The brand’s lucky number once again features on the iconic Alegra bangle, a bracelet named after the founder’s daughter. It’s all about layers at De Grisogono. The Gypsy earring attached to the right ear of the model ressembles a destructured loop with circular diamond circles changing sizes. On the opposite, the Vortice earring juxtaposes diamond lines of equal size in staggered rows to hold it in place.
Flower Power
The on-going jewelry battle between Dior and Chanel is one that is fought in the garden, between the rose and the camelia. Mounted on a thin white gold chain featuring scattered diamond petals, Dior’s Bagatelle necklace is adorned by a rose set in diamonds with a central stone at its heart surrounded by diamond petals. Chanel’s Camelia on the other hand features 34 camelias of different sizes, the largest of which tops the necklace at the clasp.
Black And White Dreams
The diamonds on the Dior Bois de Rose rings outline the thorny branches of a rose bush. Avoid getting pricked and you’ll find the Bagatelle ring, a delicate paved rose. The Cosmos earrings from the Chanel Fine Jewelry collection forms a dandelion of diamonds mixing emerald cut and brilliant cut diamonds surrounding a central diamond floating in the center where two rigid lines of gold set with respectively three and four brilliant cut diamonds end the shape of the earring sliding on the cheek.
