SIHH 2015: Introducing The Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 Carbotech (Live Pics…)
At this year’s SIHH Panerai proclaims its originality through the debut of what it calls “carbotech” – a carbon-fiber composite material which is used in the brand’s latest diver’s watch.
Combining the classic lines of the Luminor 1950 case with the P.9100 manufacture chronograph movement, one of Panerai’s star novelties at this year’s SIHH is its Luminor Submersible 1950 Carbotech 3 Days Automatic 47 mm PAM00616.
With its ultra-strong and impactful appearance, the watch incorporates the use of “carbotech” for the first time. A new lightweight material made of carbon-fiber composite, Carbotech is unique in that it is made by pressing together thin sheets of carbon fiber with polyether ether ketone.
The result is a lightweight and very strong material that is also hypoallergenic. The process endows each watch with an irregular and slightly splotchy, matt black finish. This means that no two watches will be the same.
The watch comes with a case diameter of 47 millimeters and beats with Panerai’s well-known P. 9000 caliber. The watch is automatic and has a 72-hour power reserve.
Also of note is the Luminor 1950 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Ceramica – 44 mm. With its sporty aesthetic the new Officine Panerai watch integrates the sophistication of the P.9100 manufacture chronograph movement with technical prowess and within an elegant black ceramic case.
It boasts the unmistakable Panerai design – untouched by the existence of the flyback function. The dial is replete with luminous Arabic numerals and hour markers.
It is water-resistance up to 100 meters and has a power reserve of 72 hours. A watch which makes a visual and lasting impact and one that can be equally worn out for adventure sports or a dressy occasion.
