Sailing With Panerai
I recently spent a weekend sailing with Panerai in Newport Road Island, before the close of the sailing season. Panerai is the principal sponsor of the Newport Museum of Yachting Classic Yacht Regatta. They are also supporters of Sailing Heals, a charity which provides ill patients and their caregivers the opportunity to spend a healing day at sea.
Prior to brands like Panerai sponsoring classic yacht regattas, many felt that classic wooden sailing boats would be lost forever due to the much higher maintenance cost, compared to modern boats made of fiberglass and other man-made materials. 
However, having seen them up close, I can proclaim that there is no modern material that is a true substitute for a beautiful wooden sailboat.
Being from Miami, I’ve attended many sailboat regattas before, but there is something truly special about being in a mecca of sailing such as Newport, during a classic yacht regatta. This is after all where JFK and Jaqueline Kennedy were wed.
As a watch aficionado and a weekend sailor (albeit somewhat rusty), this weekend appealed to me on both fronts.
On display in Panerai ‘s stunning VIP tent was Panerai’s latest offerings including the official watch of the event, the Panerai PAM00526 Luminor 1950 Regatta 3 Days Chrono Flyback 47mm in brushed titanium.
and my personal favorite, the new Panerai Bronzo.
Our group of VIPs were hosted at the legendary New York Yacht Club (home of the Americas Cup from 1857 until 1983 when the Cup was won by the Royal Perth Yacht Club, ending the longest winning streak in the history of the sport) as well as several local restaurants providing excellent food and hospitality. All in all a fantastic weekend, having far more fun than is the Newport norm, but still quite civilized by Miami standards.
