Rolex Joins Brand Ambassador Roger Federer at Wimbledon
The tennis world’s most prestigious competition is underway in Wimbledon, and luxury watchmaker Rolex is front and center at the iconic British courts. Rolex, which has been the Official Timekeeper at the Wimbledon Championships since 1978, has once again reprised its role in one of the world’s most iconic sponsorships.
For the tennis novices out there, Wimbledon is a two-week tournament held at the All England Club in Wimbledon, London. One of four Grand Slam tennis tournaments on the professional world circuit, Wimbledon is particularly iconic for its continued use of grass courts (while most other courts have given way to clay or hard synthetic materials). Although Rolex also sponsors the Australian Open, Wimbledon remains the favorite of the manufacture for its status as the pre-eminent Grand Slam.
During the tournament, a number of Rolex’s ambassadors will hit the courts, including Roger Federer, one of the greatest players of all time, and Li Na from China, who made both tennis and world history by becoming the first player from an Asian nation to win a singles Grand Slam title.
To celebrate this iconic sporting event, Rolex has turned its newly-minted Facebook page into a hub for all things Wimbledon. The manufacture’s page features a Rolex clock keeping local Wimbledon time, a scoreboard for ongoing matches, a roster of upcoming games and live interactions from Twitter and Instagram. Whether it’s getting the details on the highly-anticipated showdown between Federer and Rafael Nadal or the Ladies’ Singles Final, check out the Rolex page for all the details on Wimbledon.
