Roger Dubuis Pays Hommage To Vibrant City Lights With The New Excalibur Blacklight
Roger Dubuis is shaping their future of ‘Hyper Horlogerie’ further with the spectacular Excalibur Blacklight. The two watches that the brand is launching under this name are inspired by the neon lights that light up the night in many major cities, particularly Hong Kong. To achieve this, Roger Dubuis teamed up with Wu Chi Kai, one of the last neon masters of this city, to give these watches a unique and colorful twist.
The first is not hiding its precious and exclusive nature, as both the case as well as the bracelet are made from pink gold. The bezel is set with a variety of gemstones, carefully selected for their vibrant colors. They match perfectly with the sapphire micro-structures, which intertwine with the skeletonized movement. While already temptingly colorful in daylight, they are UV-reactive and light up as vibrant as city lights during the night. The movement that powers this watch, as well as its sibling with the same name, is caliber RD820SQ. Here also is Roger Dubuis not cutting any corners in making it. The 167 parts of this automatic movement are all hand finished, allowing the movement to meet the strict demands to be awarded the prestigious Poinçon de Genève.
The second version of the Excalibur Blacklight is slightly more restrained, as its case is made from white gold, the gemstones are colorless diamonds, and the sapphire micro-structures don’t show their colors in daylight. This all changes when the light goes out because bold and vibrant colors take center stage and highlight what makes this watch so incredibly unique. Even the strap plays a role in this, as its motif, inspired by the sapphire micro-structures, light up as well. It is impressive to see how Roger Dubuis is able to take the same theme and still make two such different watches. The pink gold Excalibur Blacklight is made in a limited edition of only twenty-eight pieces, while of the while white gold version only eight pieces will be made, both exclusively available through the boutiques of Roger Dubuis.
