Richard Mille Takes A Leap Into The Future With The New RM 72-01 Lifestyle In-House Chronograph
An important moment in the history of Richard Mille, as with the RM 72-01 Lifestyle In-House Chronograph, they launch the brands’ first chronograph which is developed and made entirely in its workshops in the Swiss town of Les Breuleux. It is a technical masterpiece that comes with quite a few novel features. While it does feature a traditional column wheel, it lacks a vertical clutch. Instead, it uses two oscillating pinions to transfer power to the chronograph. This comes with considerable advantages. One of them is that even when the chronograph runs, it has hardly a negative effect on the overall power reserve. Secondly, does this construction also require much less space. The height of the RM 72-01 Lifestyle In-House Chronograph can, therefore, be kept under 12mm, at a very impressive 11.68mm.
The watch is not only thin but, but for Richard Mille standards, also rather small. Its tonneau-shaped case measures 38.40 mm by 47.34 mm, which will result in excellent wearing comfort. Mille is marketing the watch as uni-sex, and given the dimensions, both sexes should indeed be delighted with the RM 72-01 around the wrist. The dial is kept very organized with easy to read subdials for the different functions, which are also color-coded. This gives a dynamic vibe to the watch, regardless of which case material you select. Tucked away at the seven o’clock position, we also find a date function, while at three o’clock, the display that indicates the currently selected function of the crown is residing.
Mille offers the RM 72-01 Lifestyle In-House Chronograph in four different varieties; titanium, black ceramic, white ceramic, and red gold. An interesting detail is that all these versions have black ceramic pushers with red gold and similar details on the crown. This further underscores the exclusive character of what is arguably Richard Mille‘s best chronograph to date.
