Oscars 2020: Red Carpet Winners & Watches
The 92nd edition of the Academy Awards was an exciting one. The Hollywood elite gathered at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, as history was made. The winners might have surprised some people, but with a very strong line-up of contenders, it was sometimes also hard to predict who would win one of those coveted statues. Joaquin Phoenix wins the award for ‘Best Actor’ for his role in the movie ‘Joker,’ while Renée Zellweger gets a golden statue for her role in the film ‘Judy,’ about the life of actress Judy Garland. ‘Parasite’ wins the award for ‘Best Movie,’ the very first time that a non-English movie achieves this.
Elton John also got to pick up an Oscar, which he won together with Bernie Taupin, for ‘Original Song.’ “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again,” was a song that he wrote for ‘Rocketman’ the movie about his own life. It was a busy time for Elton, as he not only performed the song on stage during the award ceremony but also attended his 28th annual Oscars party of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, raising funds for the fight against this terrible disease. His style was as usual unsurpassed, with around his wrist a Rolex Daytona Rainbow.
When the wait is long, victory tastes all the sweeter. This is what Brad Pitt must have thought when he picked up his very first Oscar last night for his role in ‘Once Upon a Time…..in Hollywood.’ Pitt gave an emotional speech as he took the stage. Although his perfectly tailored shirt kept his wrist covered for most of the night, you can expect to find there a Breitling. Pitt has been a fan of the brand for years, and is also a member of Breitling’s Cinema Squad, together with Adam Driver and Charlize Theron.
Colin Jost got to escort his fiance Scarlett Johansson, who looked absolutely stunning in her glamorous dress by Oscar de la Renta. He himself went as the perfect gentleman, wearing a well-cut tuxedo. He couldn’t resist a sportive touch though, as around his wrist was a TAG Heuer Monaco Calibre 11. This is one of the icons of the Swiss brand, which became famous when it was introduced in 1969, being one of the first automatic chronographs, as well as the first water-resistant watch with a square case.
While all the (potential) winners have to wait in the audience, special guests and the presenters of the Oscars, get to wait in the ‘Green Room.’ Offered as an oasis of peace within a very hectic event, it gives these people a chance to relax before they have to go on stage for a worldwide audience of countless millions. The ‘Green Room’ is made possible by Rolex who, for many years now, enjoys a strong connection with the world of movies. They collaborated closely with James Cameron, filmmaker, explorer, and winner of multiple Oscars, who also worn a Rolex when he made his record-breaking dive to the bottom of the Mariana Trench. For him, but also for Rami Malek, who won the Oscar for ‘Best Actor’ last year, the Rolex ‘Green Room’ is a welcome place to meet at one of the most high-profile events of the year.
