Kevin Spacey Hosts IWC Dinner for “Le Petit Prince” Anniversary
Last night Kevin Spacey hosted a special event in honor of IWC and “Le Petit Prince”. The actor did a special reading and a dinner in London to help the Swiss manufacture mark the 70th anniversary of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s bestselling novel.
The manufacture arranged for Spacey to do a special reading from the book at the Children’s Reading Room in Harrods. The reading was followed by an intimate private dinner at the restaurant Sketch in Mayfair, London. Guests were treated to a champagne reception, followed by a four course dinner prepared by Michelin-starred chef Pierre Gagnaire. Spacey also joined IWC CEO Georges Kern in mingling with guests, who were offered a preview of two new IWC timepieces: the Pilot’s Watch Mark XVII Edition “Le Petit Prince” and the Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Edition “Le Petit Prince”.
Kern commented, “The evening allowed us to honour Antoine de SaintExu péry for the great writer and humanist he was, from whom we, as a brand, draw much inspiration and who has remained a paragon of courage, pioneering spirit and pas sion to this day. With our long tradition of manufacturing Pilot’s Watches, we feel bound to Antoine de SaintExupéry in many ways. As a company with a strong sense of social responsibility, we are proud to have been the partners of the Antoine de SaintExupéry Youth Foundation since 2006. We’re delighted that Kevin Spacey was able to join us for such an important anniversary celebration, knowing that he shares many of our humanitarian beliefs.”
The events in the UK were just the latest in IWC’s celebration of “Le Petit Prince”. Last week the manufacture raised CHF 173,000 (approximately US$188,600) for the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Youth Foundation with the auction of a one-of-a-kind IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Edition “Le Petit Prince”. The funds will contribute to the construction of a school with a library in Cambodia.
