Jaquet Droz Goes For Red With New SW
The world of Jaquet Droz is ruled by elegance, but that doesn’t mean that the brand doesn’t make a sports watch. Within the SW-collection, which stands for ‘sport watch,’ has it translated this elegance into a contemporary and charismatic watch that fits in with an active lifestyle. In their latest addition to this collection, Jaquet Droz makes a bold combination of polished black ceramic, brushed stainless steel, and striking red details and strap.
The watch’s architecture is stunning and can, despite its robust appearance, only be mistaken for a Jaquet Droz. Main contributor to this is the large ‘grande seconde’ with a smaller subdial above for the hours and minute. This is a signature feature that the SW shares with most of its siblings. The case is a generous 45mm in diameter and consists of several parts that are all firmly secured by screws in the back. With its claw-like shape, the crown protector does its job with a sportive sense of elegance, as it is mimicked on the other side. It also serves as a visual bridge between the case and the metal framework on the dial. Underneath, we find caliber JD2663A-S, a self-winding manufacture movement, which offers a power reserve of 68 hours, thanks to two mainspring barrels.
The dial is surrounded by the polished ceramic bezel, which matches in turn with the black lacquered dial. The subdials for the hour and minute and the ‘grande seconde’ lie deeper than the rest, which adds a great deal of depth to the watch. Jaquet Droz has always been a brand of details, which is clearly visible where the subdial of the ‘grande seconde’ overlaps with that of the hour and minute hand. Here the roman numerals are replaced for Arabic ones in red, perfectly matching the red fabric strap. These details are what set the SW apart from the rest, and make it a (re)fine(d) addition to the rest of the collection.
