IWC Launches New Chronograph In Collaboration With Mercedes-AMG
For over 17 years, IWC has enjoyed a very fruitful partnership with Mercedes-AMG. One of the reasons they work so well together is because the DNA of both companies is so aligned. Unique is also that the collaboration includes not only the road cars but also the Formula 1 car of Mercedes-AMG. In reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton has IWC also found a natural ambassador that wears their watches with the same flair and passion as he drives. To continue this legacy, IWC is launching the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “AMG.”
This watch is an homage to two materials that play a very important part these days in automotive engineering, both on the open road as on the race track. This also makes the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “AMG” the very first of its kind to be made from Grade 5 titanium. This material is not only light but also scratch-resistant. Equally light is the dial made from the same woven carbon fiber Mercedes-AMG uses for its aero components. While its overall contribution to the weight of the watch is minimal, its texture gives it a character all of its own. As legibility is always very important with IWC‘s pilot’s watches, the Chronograph Edition “AMG” has contrasting subdials, combined with bold hands and Arabic numerals.
The titanium case of the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “AMG” features a matte finish, which amplifies its high-tech look. A screw-in crown provides extra protection against moisture entering the case, and the sapphire crystal features special protection against displacement caused by drops in air pressure. On the back, caliber 69385 is visible through a sapphire caseback insert featuring the AMG logo. This automatic movement features a technical finish and has a power reserve of 46 hours and controls the function of the chronograph through a column wheel. The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “AMG” is available as of now for pre-order at IWC’s website, boutiques, and retail partners.
