Introducing The Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 Le Corbusier Limited Edition, A Steel Watch With A Concrete Dial
Swiss manufacture Girard-Perregaux hosted a very left-bank event in Paris on October 22 to present its latest version of the Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 Le Corbusier timepiece in steel with a concrete dial. This new limited edition of 50 pieces marks the 50th anniversary of the death of the celebrated architect and urban designer Charles-Edouard Jeanneret, also known as Le Corbusier.
Press, French celebrities, and other friends of the brand gathered at the Galerie Jousse Entreprise on the rue de Seine in the 6th district of Paris to discover the new timepiece amid the exhibition “Pierre Jeanneret. Le Corbusier. Chandigarh.” consisting of rare pieces of furniture designed by Le Corbusier and his cousin and collaborator Pierre Jeanneret.
The objects on display come from Chandigarh in India – a new city built by the architect at the request of the late Indian Prime Minister Nehru in 1947, providing a perfect ambiance for the new timepiece with concrete dial – one of Le Corbusier’s preferred building materials. The exhibition is open to the public until November 21.
The dial of the new watch is engraved with a new interpretation of “La Cité Radieuse”, the architect’s famous steel and concrete residential building constructed from 1945 – 1952 in Marseille, France, and a representation of the “Modulor” – a stylized human silhouette conceived by Le Corbusier to regulate the structure and sizes of his modern housing units.
Born in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the Swiss Jura mountain village that is also home to Girard-Perregaux, the architect known for his modern designs and materials was the subject of a previous limited homage edition from the watchbrand, in 2012, with “La Trilogie Le Corbusier”. A detailed report with photos of this new Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 Le Corbusier timepiece follows soon, before its arrival in the French market by mid to end November.
