Hublot Launches Gender Neutral Collaboration With Garage Italia And Lapo Elkann

Hublot is taking the next step in the evolution of the ‘Art of Fusion.’ In collaboration with Fiat heir, style icon and entrepreneur Lapo Elkann, and his Garage Italia, the place in Milan where the world of automotive meets that of fashion and design, they have created a new Big Bang. It is not the first time that they work together as Elkann has also been involved in creating the Classic Fusion Italia Independent, along with top tailor Rubinacci, as well as the charismatic Classic Fusion Chronograph for his own brand. Now they debut the Big Bang Millennial Pink, which is created to be a gender-neutral watch.

This is quite something to say about a watch on which almost everything is pink, a color in most cultures associated with women. Elkann says about this; ‘At Garage Italia, we want to be part of a world where the character of every person is defined by their love of life and their inclusivity, rather than by their power of their superiority.’ The perception of the color of this Big Bang is part of this. What is pink for some, may others view as salmon, apricot or grapefruit, and with this Hublot, Elkann and his Garage Italia are trying to break the gender barrier.

Creating a Big Bang in this color is, by itself, not an easy task. Hublot utilized its significant expertise and applied the color through a process called anodization on an aluminum case. This not only colors the case but also protects it. Because of its light-weight base material, Hublot kept the weight of this 42mm large watch low, allowing it to be worn with comfort by everybody, regardless of their wrist size. The Big Bang Millennial Pink is powered by Hublot’s manufacture chronograph caliber HUB1280 and comes with two straps. One is a rubber strap in millennial pink, while the other is made from a combination of Velcro and a knitted PES fabric. Switching between them, or another strap from Hublot’s collection is a breeze thanks to the patented One-Click system. Hublot will make only 200 pieces of the Big Bang Millennial Pink, which will be available at their boutiques and selected retailers.
