Haute Living Watch of the Week: A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Ref. 235
The new A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Ref. 235 honors the birth date of the company founder, Ferdinand A. Lange, whose philosophy of design was “Medèn ágan – nothing in excess,” a call for moderation and modesty, posted at the entrance to the ancient Temple of Delphi. This motto characterized the style of the brand’s pocket watches, which inspired the design of the new 1815 wristwatch. It bears all the hallmarks of the Lange & Söhne style, with its two-tier design, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock, solid-silver dial, contoured bezel, slender lugs, railway-track minute scale and highly legible black Arabic numerals. It contains the hand-wound Caliber L051.1, with a 55 hour power reserve. It features the brand’s iconic three-quarter plate made of German silver, a hand-engraved balance cock, screwed gold chatons and blued screws.
