Haute Event: Breguet Brings Exhibition of Vintage Timepieces To The Intrepid

Elite watch brand Breguet christened its new exhibit aboard The Intrepid in Manhattan last night. Fittingly, the unfurling of “Breguet: Watchmaker, Aviator, Innovator” took place on Flag Day, with the collection of 26 Breguet timepieces (10 of them vintage pieces on display in America for the first time) stealing attention from The Intrepid’s fleet of fighter planes and the midtown skyline.

Breguet’s military ties are deep: the brand was appointed official watchmaker to the French Royal Navy after A.-L. Breguet developed an early marine chronometer that revolutionized sea travel in 1815. A century later, the company was the first to introduce military-style watches mimicking their designs for World War I aviators and their cockpit instrument panels.

Last night’s event drew 300 guests to the exhibit, which will be open for public viewing at the Breguet boutique on Fifth Avenue from June 19 to July 8.
