Haute Auto of the Week: 2015 Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II
Rolls-Royce first introduced the Ghost Series five years ago to great success. The latest incarnation, which had its debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, raises the bar even further. The Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II combines sporty acceleration with a luxurious, comfortable ride. The “II” refers to several subtle changes in the 2015 model, including an updated gearbox with satellite-aided technology that uses GPS data to select gears based on the terrain ahead. The Ghost II boasts superior suspension thanks to redesigned struts, a new steering gear and rear hydraulic axle bearings, as well as adjusted dampers to improve handling. One element that didn’t need tweaking was the twin-turbo V-12 engine, which has a ZF-sourced eight speed automatic that sends 565 hp and 575 lb-ft of torque to the car’s rear wheels. Satisfy your need for speed with the short wheelbase Ghost Series II, which will go from zero to 60 in an estimated 4.8 seconds. The extended wheelbase model gets it done with just a tenth of a second more.
As for aesthetic changes, the Ghost Series II features a redesigned bumper with larger air intakes and chrome accents, a resculpted hood and forged aluminum rims in two size options- 19 inches for an every day look or 21 inches for more dramatic impact. The reshaped headlights contain sharper LED daytime running lamps, while a revised active high beam system deflects light for oncoming traffic.
Inside the car, passengers will enjoy the comfort of redesigned seats with electronically-adjustable thigh supports up front and “lounge seat” configuration in back. The dash features improved soft touch materials, a thicker steering wheel and metal-accented instrument dials. Updated interior touches include two new wood choices- Paldao and Walnut Burr Crossband- and the option of leather-wrapped A and C-pillars.
The advancements continue behind the dashboard, with added connectivity options, an improved infotainment system with a 10.3-inch high definition screen and a touchpad for ease of use with audio, telephone and messaging functions.
Inside and out, the Ghost Series II is an improvement on a classic. Its new features make it an appealing choice for the discerning car buyer.
