Greubel Forsey Expand Their Sport Watch Collection With New Balancier S
Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey always enjoy a challenge and have, in the process, created a collection of highly sophisticated watches that dazzle with a perfect finish of all parts, even the ones you don’t see. With the new Balancier S, they take on a slightly different direction, by purposely making a watch for an active lifestyle. With its ergonomic design, light titanium case, and 100-meter water resistance, does it follow in the footsteps of the GMT Sport, launched in 2019. This means that it is a bonafide sports watch, yet with all the hallmarks that make a Greubel Forsey so special.
The new Balancier S impresses with several features. Of course, there is the movement. While not fitted with a tourbillon, as many other models from Greubel Forsey, it is equipped with a 12.60mm large balance wheel placed at a 30° inclined escapement platform for optimum precision. Both the escapement platform as well as all the bridges and mainplate are made out of titanium. While Greubel Forsey may consider this a sports watch, the finish is at the same level as all their other watches. Two mainspring barrels, fast-rotating and coupled in series, provide the watch with a power reserve of 72 hours.
While the whole construction of the watch is imposing, with the inclined balance wheel and the bridge toward the hands that show part of the gear train, the sapphire crystal is also quite an achievement. It follows the curve of the case seamlessly, making it quite challenging to produce as it is oval and arched. With a diameter of 43mm is the watch perfectly sized for a sports watch. The curve of the case makes it sit comfortably on the wrist, with the rubber strap firmly securing it. With watches like the GMT Sport before and now the Balancier S is Greubel Forsey expanding their universe and set a new standard in the sports watch category.
