Girard-Perregaux Named Exclusive Timekeeper of New Academy Museum of Motion Pictures

Swiss haute horlogerie brand Girard-Perregaux has been named Founding Supporter and Exclusive Timekeeper of the new Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, which is set to open its doors to the public in Los Angeles in approximately four years’ time.    The museum, which will be the first not-for-profit museum in the country dedicated to the history and ongoing development of motion pictures, will be designed by celebrated architects Zoltan Pali and Renzo Piano.  The duo will be completely renovating the old May Company building located on Wilshire Boulevard where the museum will be housed.

In a move designed to celebrate this unique collaboration and partnership, the watchmaker will make use of the museum’s iconic photograph collection in their advertising campaigns and will also develop special initiatives which may include exclusive lines of timepieces.

We are honored to be working alongside the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on this extraordinary venture”, says Michele Sofisti, CEO of the Sowind Group (Girard-Perregaux and JEANRICHARD). “We understand the importance of preserving the heritage and history of film making which, like watchmaking, requires an immense amount of love, work and dedication”.

Bill Kramer, Managing Director of Development for the Academy Museum also stated about the partnership:  “We are thrilled to be partnering with Girard-Perregaux on the creation of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Girard-Perregaux’s commitment to artistic excellence and technological advancement is a perfect fit for the Academy Museum. We look forward to working with them to realize this long-held dream of the Academy and the moviemaking industry.”
