Experiencing the Ulysse Nardin Classic Sonata
Understated, elegant, functional: the new Ulysse Nardin Classic Sonata is it all. However, it also cleverly hides the fact that this a very complicated watch. Dual time, alarm function and a large date complication are all clearly visible, but hidden in the movement are the gongs that make this alarm so pleasant!
Most alarm watches sound like an angry cricket or a severely annoyed rattlesnake. While these watches are still fascinating, this is not exactly a sound that you want to wake up to. The Sonata wakes you up with a very pleasant cathedral chime and makes your day so much nicer because of it.
Ulysse Nardin set out to make the perfect travel watch, as they redesigned part of the UN-67 manufacture caliber to even further improve it. It is not only fitted with a silicium escapement but also with a silicium hairspring. When traveling the time can easily be adjusted backward or forwards, by pressing one of the two pushers.
While previous Sonata’s were often designed in a very progressive style, as it is a progressive movement and Ulysse Nardin a progressive brand, the Classic Sonata is indeed…classic. Its design brings the watch much more under the radar, gives it an understated presence and makes it most of all a true connoisseurs watch. Not many people will expect that such a beautiful sound can come from a watch, while at the same time being more practical and far less expensive than a minute repeater.
To even help further with that, did Ulysse Nardin release the Classic Sonata not only in 18K rose gold, but also in stainless steel. While you won’t be disappointed with the sound of the 18K rose gold Classic Sonata, it is the stainless steel version that has the best sound. This has been quite a dilemma for watchmakers in general: for the sound of minute repeaters stainless steel is one of the best options, but also one of the least prestigious. That didn’t hold Ulysse Nardin back to introduce the Classic Sonata in this material, and for this we thank them!
