Last night at a lavish event at The Duggal Greenhouse in Brooklyn, Piaget unveiled its all-new stainless steel Piaget Polo S watch line. Consisting of five models, the Piaget Polo S marks the first time the brand has introduced a collection that will be built only in stainless steel. The launch of the line also marks a new focus for Piaget: the Game Changer generation. And, to back it all up, the brand had 8 “game changer” personalities on hand at the event — wearing the new watch, of course.

Several factors make the new Piaget Polo S watches distinctive. First and foremost, as mentioned, is that the watches are made in stainless steel – an area where the brand has not tread before. Additionally, Piaget has built two new movements to equip the watches with automatic calibers and yet still make them incredibly attractive price wise. In fact, the line represents a new opening price for a Piaget watch of less than $10,000.

Created in a 42mm round case, the Piaget Polo S watch features a few signature designs incorporated into it. Following on the brand’s style of blending shapes within shapes, the watch features a cushion-shaped dial within the outer round case. This shape blends two of the brands most iconic looks: the original 1979 Piguet Polo round watch, and the cushion-shaped Emperador Coussin.

Additional features include stunning details inside and out. To being with, the brand has developed two new automatic movements to power the watches. One is an automatic three-hand with date, the 1110P movement, and the other is a chronograph caliber, 1160P. All five of the models are equipped with a sapphire caseback for viewing the movement.

There are also three-hand automatics with date aperture in the Piaget Polo S collection, and each features signature Piaget detailing.

The dials are also an important statement in updated Piaget style. While the three-hand is offered with a white, slate-gray or blue dial, the Chronograph is only offered with a silvered dial or a stunning blue dial. All watches are offered on an integrated bracelet with alternating links of high polish and satin finish. The automatic retails for $9,350, while the chronograph retails for $12,400.

The Piaget Polo S takes its name from a variety of sources. Naturally it is inspired by the original legendary Piaget Polo watch, with the “S” standing for a host of concepts ranging from sporty to shaped, signature and steel, of course. It also stands for society – underscoring Piaget’s commitment to the arts, film, and cultural social worlds. Finally, it stands for singular—representing the new generation of game changers that the brand is targeting – who enjoy standing out from the rest.

According to Philippe Leopold Metzger, CEO of Piaget, “We want to focus on a new generation, a generation of game changers.”
As such, the brand has selected eight men from around the world — whose talent embodies their willingness to play the game differently – to wear the new Piaget Polo S. These men are making an impact in their individual worlds, and have proved that they have the spirit and ethos of the new line, explains Metzger.

Depending on the model, dial colors offered include blue, silver, slate gray or black.

Ryan Reynolds, Piaget’s international brand ambassador, and a Canadian actor/producer is one of the men wearing the new generation of timepieces. Reynolds has starred in such movies as The Green Lantern, Buried, The Proposal and, most recently Deadpool.

“One of the things I have in common with this watch is that I like the idea of relaxed luxury, the idea that what you wear with a tuxedo, you can also wear with casual clothes,” says Reynolds of the Piaget Polo S.

Also on the Piaget Game-Changer roster of additional eight: actor Michael B. Jordan (most recently of Creed); artist and business man Mohammed Sultan Al Habtoor who is setting trends in men’s fashion in the UAE; British polo player and entrepreneur, Malcolm Borwick, who has represented the country in more than 50 games around the world; Swiss novelist Joel Dicker; actor and singer Hu Ge of Shanghai; Belgium-born tennis player David Goffin; Japanese-born musician, singer and songwriter, Miyavi; French-born chef, Jean-Francois Piège.

In addition to Reynolds, all of the other eight “game changers” were in attendance at last night’s event –sporting their watches with effortless style. According to Metzger, Piaget selected New York for the launch of the new Piaget Polo S because of the watch’s long affiliation with the city. In fact, more than 30 years ago, the brand’s Piaget Polo team celebrated the watch by riding their horses down Fifth Avenue. During that era, the brand also had an incredible celebrity Piaget Polo Team that saw Hollywood stars joining in the fun.

(Editor’s Note: Piaget did, in fact, build some steel watches in the first half of the 20th century, and also launched a steel version as part of a collection called Upstream in 2001, but that line was not an entire collection of steel watches.)
