Elettra Wiedemann Helps Omega Welcome NY Arrival of Solar-Powered Plane
Last night in New York City luxury watchmaker Omega celebrated the arrival of Solar Impulse, a solar powered plane that is aiming to be the first to fly around the world. The Swiss manufacture was joined at a dinner at the Swiss Consulate by model and socialite Elettra Wiedemann.
Guests at the dinner included Swiss Ambassador François Barras, Gillian Miniter, Bronson Van Wyck, Ashley Wilcox Platt, and Michelle Smith, as well as Solar Impulse pilots Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg. The celebration began with cocktails at the consulate, followed by a short video highlighting the accomplishments of the Solar Impulse, a speech by Omega’s Head of Retail Brice LeTroadec, and remarks from the night’s honorees, Piccard and Borschberg.
Omega is the primary sponsor of Solar Impulse, which is testing the limits of renewable resources by striving to be the first plane to fly around the world using only solar energy. The Solar Impulse is already the first plane to fly overnight without fuel, and the first plane to make an intercontinental flight using only solar power.
