CRN’s Atlante: Don’t Just Visit, Invade
The Mil-Spec style has made its way from the battlefield into the realms of high fashion, with the luxury market lapping up its stealthy style. From Swiss timepieces to Fall Collections, camouflage patterns, olive greens and tough hardwearing materials are now seen as stylistic statements more than basic survival equipment.
It’s not just the fashion houses that have embraced the combatant look; car, truck and motorcycle manufacturers have also produced their own Mil-Spec machines, but, the trend had not been discovered by the yachting industry, until now.
Launched in 2015, CRN’s Atlante fired a volley of shots across the bows of the superyacht world. This 55-meter yacht, which made its debut at the Monaco Yacht Show, is the acute opposite of the traditional superyacht. Instead of soft, flowing shapes and a clean, white superstructure, this Italian yacht features bold lines, gunmetal grey paintwork and an aggressive style that wouldn’t look amiss with a pair of 102mm guns mounted on the foredeck.
Styled by the renowned design duo of Nuvolari Lenard, Atlante has been given a number of visual stealth capabilities. At the Owner’s request, no deck hardware, technical equipment, or anything dedicated to operational-use is on view. Even the aft deck – the traditional open-air entertainment area – is hidden behind a metal grille. This keeps prying eyes away, and at the touch of a button, hydraulic rams lift the side panels, opening the sun loungers inside to the elements.
Another button touch lowers Atlante’s transom door revealing the smoked oak, brushed fir, teak and dark grey Carnico marble infused beach club. This contemporary area also serves as the entry point to the Atlante’s interior, which was designed by the Paris-based studio of Patrick Gilles and Dorothée Boissier.
Gilles & Boissier were tasked with not only designing the custom living spaces, but the team also fabricated the fittings, furniture and a number of unique pieces. The main salon is hugely impressive, mixing textures and natural elements to create a comfortable and relaxing ambience.
Heading forward we find the master suite, a luxurious area for the Owner to work, rest and play, resplendent in its brushed silver and brown fir, brushed black oak and eucalyptus detailing. For her lucky guests, Atlante bucks the usual trend of having four identically sized cabins; instead, she has four VIP suites of varying sizes and layouts all filled to the brim with top-level AV systems – most un-militaristic.
Atlante’s upper deck salon with its colossal floor-to-ceiling glazing creates a genuine sky lounge feel, allowing generous open-sea views while keeping guests cool (or warm – dependent on hemisphere). Up on top, the sun deck is the ideal place to catch some rays while relaxing on the sofas and sunpads, or even dine alfresco, utilizing the galley and bar.
CRN’s Atlante is a groundbreaking superyacht. Her Mil-Spec look, combined with a unique layout leaves an unforgettable imprint on the mind.
