Close Up: Zenith El Primero 410

Today we’re taking a close up look at the Calibre 410 by Zenith. The newest edition of the manufacture’s iconic El Primero, this timepiece combines an automatic chronograph with triple calendar and moonphase indications.

According to the manufacture, the El Primero 410 was inspired by Zenith’s historical Primero 3019 PHF movement, later referenced as 410. Built around a column wheel and endowed with a 50-hour power reserve, the Calibre 410 was used in Zenith timepieces from 1969 until 2000. The El Primero 410 is not only named for that iconic calibre, it also (naturally) features the highly precise 390-component movement at its heart.

The El Primero 410 is housed in a 42mm stainless steel case. The silver-toned sunray dial features rhodium hands and hour-markers, as well as a blue central chronograph seconds hand. The days are indicated at 10 o’clock, the months at 2 o’clock, and the date between 4 and 5 o’clock. A subdial at 3 o’clock features a 30-minute counter, while another subdial at 9 o’clock features small seconds.

A subdial at 6 o’clock features both a 12-hour counter and the moonphase. The successive phases of the moon (waxing moon, full moon, waning moon, new moon) are visible through an aperture with two rounded cut-outs reproducing the dark part of the moon. The disc bearing two moons is driven by a 59-toothed wheel corresponding to two lunar cycles (2 x 29.5 days). A tachometric scale is featured on the opaline inner bezel ring. It is completed by a brown alligator leather strap with protective rubber lining and stainless steel buckle with triple folding clasp.

The Zenith El Primero 410 will be limited to an edition of 500 pieces.
