Chronoswiss Flying Regulator Night and Day: The Future Is Three-Dimensional

When Chronoswiss launched their first regulator model, 30 years ago, they brought a dial configuration mainly known from clocks to the wrist and created an icon in the process. While during those years Chronoswiss created many other beautiful, and even more complicated, watches, the Regulator remained one of their signature models. And now, with the Flying Regulator Night and Day, Chronoswiss writes a new chapter in the history of the model.

Following in the footsteps of the Flying Regulator Open Gear does also the Flying Regulator Night and Day feature a complex three-dimensional dial. This multi-level stage adds not only to the appeal of the watch, but also aides in the ease with which its different functions can be read. The three-dimensional dial also allows Chronoswiss to create a day-night indicator in a dome shape, positioned at three o’clock on the dial. To create a display in such a shape is quite unique in the watch world, but most certainly adds to the appeal of the model.

Chronoswiss doesn’t stop there because the stars that indicate the night time are actually filled with Super-LumiNova. The effect of this during the evening and night is quite spectacular, especially in combination with the hands and indexes, which have also gotten a Super-LumiNova treatment. This makes the Chronoswiss Flying Regulator very legible not only during the day but also during the night.

The hour and second hands each have a funnel-shaped dial of their own, and underneath the second’s hand, you can even have a glimpse of the movement underneath. By showing not only the current date but also the day before and after, Chronoswiss has incorporated a sportive element that balances out very nicely with the day/night indicator on the other side of the dial. The case if classic Chronoswiss! With its distinct bezel, screw in strap holders and large onion crown it gives the Flying Regulator Day and Night a vintage touch. At the back, you can even admire the well-finished movement of the watch. Don’t be fooled though,by its classic looks; it is a modern creation that is even water resistant up to 100 meters.

Chronoswiss is releasing four different versions of the Flying Regulator Day and Night, and it surprising to note how the different case material and color details give the watch a completely different character. 18k Red Gold with a black dial is perhaps the most classic configuration for the watch, with the rich tone of the gold amplifying the unique features on the dial. A black dial is also available in combination with a steel case, yet then as a 50-piece limited edition with red details. This makes the watch quite sportive. The non-limited steel version with silver dial features subtle blue details that put extra attention to the day and night indicator. That same indicator blends in beautifully when you opt for the blue dial version in a steel case. All four are a testimony that the Chronoswiss Flying Regulator Night and Day is not only a very functional and versitile watch, but also that it has quite a lot of character no matter what configuration you prefer.
