Chopard Celebrate 20th Anniversary of Happy Sport at BaselWorld
This year at BaselWorld, Chopard celebrated the 20th anniversary of its iconic Happy Sport model. The luxury watchmaker marked this jubilee year by presenting the new Happy Sport Medium Automatic, a mechanical interpretation of this famous model.
To gain a true appreciation of the Happy Sport Medium Automatic, it is worthwhile going back to the start. It was in 1993 that Caroline Scheufele created the Happy Sport watch. In the years since, this elegant style has been reinterpreted several times, from the Happy Beach to La Vie en Rose, Happy Spirit and Mystery Pink. In each of its iterations, this model retains its most celebrated feature; the diamonds moving freely just a few centimetres above the watch’s dials.
The famous moving diamonds are of course front and centre in the new Happy Sport Medium Automatic. However, in this model those moving diamonds meet a mechanical self-winding movement. Inside the 36 mm-diameter steel case, a guilloché silver-toned dial (a tribute to the decorative traditions of classical watchmaking) makes the perfect backdrop for the seven moving diamonds. On the caseback, a transparent sapphire provides a glimpse of the 25-jewel movement, which is adorned with a straight Côtes de Genève motif (also known as Geneva stripes).
A black alligator leather strap with steel pin buckle completes the look.
