Cartier Unveil Métiers d’Art Crocodile Watch
Luxury watchmaker Cartier has unveiled the stunning new Crocodile Watch as part of its Métiers d’Art collection. This timepiece features a cameo crocodile motif in natural agate, and is endowed with a flying tourbillon complication.
The cameo technique used for this timepiece was a serious undertaking. The subtle gradations of blue in its natural agate suggest the reflections of the sea and the gem-cutter has created a crocodile emerging from the waves. The 18-carat white gold case features a beaded crown set with a sapphire cabochon. This predator, one of the most emblematic in the Cartier menagerie, is particularly striking in this interpretation with its bold relief and sparkles of light. It requires a special expertise to bring out the nuances of the agate, ranging from blue-tinged black to shimmering white, without damaging the stone. At its heart is a flying tourbillon stamped with the Geneva Sea, with seconds indicated by the tourbillon carriage in the form of a C, and a manual winding calibre 9452 MC movement. A black semi-matt alligator skin (fittingly) finishes the look.
Cartier will produce just 30 pieces of this limited edition timepiece.
