Cartier Revives The Pasha

2020 marks the return of the Pasha de Cartier, which also happens to celebrate its 35th birthday. The watch was initially launched in 1985 and one of the great successes of the brand. It was created by Gerald Genta, who cleverly combined the Vendome-lugs, designed and patented by Louis Cartier in 1934, with a round case and a prominent canteen-crown. It resulted in a very expressive watch that today hasn’t lost any of its appeal.

The latest generation of the Pasha de Cartier comes in two sizes; 36mm and 41mm and is available in either stainless steel or gold. Both look similar, with as only distinct difference that the 41mm version has a date window tucked in between the four and five o’clock position. The new model lacks a diving bezel, that was a staple feature on the Pasha for some time, which gives it a very clean and powerful look, especially in combination with the bold, blued sword hands. The watch is available on both a leather strap as well as a newly designed bracelet. Fortunately, you don’t have to choose between these two excellent options, as the new Pasha comes with both. Changing between them can be done with ease at home, thanks to the QuickSwitch system. Another great new feature is the ability to personalize your Pasha by adding a small engraving underneath the crown link. Both sizes are powered by caliber 1847MC, an automatic manufacture movement.

Over the last couple of years, Cartier has established itself as an expert in this field, and that most certainly shows. What makes this skeleton slightly different is that it is powered by an automatic movement, which Cartier has only done in the past with the Clé de Cartier Skeleton. This watch comes with both a stainless steel bracelet as well as an alligator strap. For those who prefer their skeleton to be a bit more complicated, does Cartier also offer the Pasha with a flying tourbillon. This complication is prominently featured on the six o’clock position and gives the watch a distinctly different character. With its gold case does it ooze precious exclusivity and make for a perfect match with the charismatic Pasha design.
