The House of Cartier shared its sparkle and shine at the moving ceremony of the 9th Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards in Deauville, France last Thursday night when it rewarded seven outstanding ladies representing six start-up companies from six regions around the globe.
The laureates from Latin America, North America, Europe, MENA (Middle East North Africa), Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia-Pacific received full honours from the reputed haute jeweler and watchmaker for their entrepreneurial activities and business plans, following an intense competition from over 1700 applications.
Created in 2006 by Cartier and the Woman’s Forum that takes place in Deauville in October, in association with the international business school INSEAD and the global management consulting firm McKinsey & Co., the Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards attribute each project with a US$20,000 grant, coaching for one year, networking opportunities, media visibility, and an exclusive trophy designed by Cartier.
How does it work? Applications are made from November to February, pre-selections start in March, and finalists are announced in June-July, then coached until October in preparation for Round 2, when business plans are submitted to the jury. To be considered, the project must be a creative, for-profit business, have from 1 to 3 years of operations, and be led by a woman from any country, nationality and industry.
