Bremont Honors RAF’s 100th Anniversary With The ‘1918’ Watch
The proudly British watch brand with a love of aviation, Bremont Watch Company, celebrates the 100-year anniversary of the Royal Air Force with the “Bremont 1918” limited edition chronograph. As with previous limited edition watches from Bremont, a percentage of the proceeds will go to charity. In this case it is the Royal Air Forces Association, which supports current and former RAF personnel.
Named in tribute to the founding year of the RAF, the Bremont 1918 takes inspiration from RAF history and heritage. For example its rotor has material from four exceptional historic aircraft that fought with the RAF during major campaigns of both world wars.
In addition, it is the first time a Bremont watch has used an am/pm indicator, which could be mistaken for a moonphase complication. It is designed to depict the Supermarine Spitfire dogfighting in the Battle of Britain during the day, and then the legendary Avro Lancaster bomber flying on a night mission lit up by search-lights. The indicator is used in sync with the 12-hour GMT indicator. The multi-level opalin matt metal dial in black, white or blue has applied indexes and solid gold/blued nickel hands with Super-LumiNova.
For the first time, a Bremont watch incorporates a Telemeter that allows the user to approximately measure the distance to an event that can be both seen and heard, such as the distance of a lightning bolt by measuring the time between the sight and sound of a strike.
The 43mm watch case features the company’s “Trip-Tick” case construction that allows the watch to be water resistant to 100 meters. The case is available in white gold, rose gold and stainless steel.
The watch is powered by the modified caliber BE-16AE chronograph movement with a 42-hour minimum power reserve. As mentioned the rotor is decorated with metal and wood veneer from four original RAF aircraft that flew in WWI and WWII. The rotor is also in the shape of three propeller blades easily seen on the caseback.
It comes in three models. The while gold case and blue dial version is limited to 75 pieces and retails for $22,950; the rose gold case with black dial is limited to 75 pieces and costs $21,495; and the stainless steel and white dial version is limited to 275 pieces and costs $11,495.
