Blancpain Dives Deeper With New Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe In Titanium

Titanium has always been an intriguing material to craft watches from. It didn’t become widely used in the world of watches until the 1980s, but today it is embraced by a wide variety of brands. Some polish it to perfection, giving it a look similar to that of stainless steel, but in a brushed finish, the deep grey tone that is so typical for titanium tends to give watches a more technical look. This is also the case with the new Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe that Blancpain recently introduced.

Blancpain spent a lot of effort in making the watch as legible as possible. As a pioneer in diving watches with close to seven decades of experience, they know how to achieve this like no other. The watch’s look is rather restrained, with no distractions, allowing divers to read the time and amount spent underwater at a glance. As a result, the watch looks also sensational on land, offering a refinement rarely seen in such a robust tool watch. Thanks to the use of titanium, Blancpain could make the new Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe 43mm in diameter without the wearing comfort suffering, as the low density of the titanium makes it light to wear.

Unique is that Blancpain opted for grade 23 titanium. This high-end alloy is rarely used in the watch industry, for one, because it is tough to machine and finish. However, when you master this, the result is stunning as the different finishing techniques also influence the material’s color. This gives the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe a lot of character and a deep sense of refinement. While available on a Nato-strap, Blancpain also offers a bracelet crafted from the same grade 23 titanium. Inside the case, we find caliber 1315, a high-performance movement made in Blancpain’s manufacture that provides a power reserve of five days. It features a beautiful finish and a silicon balance spring to make it less susceptible to magnetic fields. Despite the sapphire crystal insert in the caseback, the water resistance of this Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe is 30 bar/300 meters. That makes it the perfect companion for any adventure, above and below sea level.
