An incredibly influential historic journey is revisited once more, crossing the boundary of time with Ulysse Nardin’s pastiche of Hannibal Barca and his troops journey across the Alps in 218 BCE. The watch itself pays homage to the terrestrial and the progression of humanity, through the use of Alpine granite stone which takes refuge in the dial curving round the circumference of it, saluting the hours of 9, 10, 11, 12, 1, 2 and 3 o’clock. The use of a silver coloured metal such as platinum for the intricately sculptured white gold figurines and the 44mm case, consciously suggests to the era of the epic event, occurring in the now primitive time of: the Iron Age.

The figurine Alps stand strong in the background, below them Ulysse Nardin have successfully created a visual still of a fight mid action, with the figures eternally frozen in battle underneath a traditional sapphire crystal glass. The soldiers are captured in mid fighting stance, while Hannibal can be seen astride a great elephant adorned in ancient Punic Carthaginian armour. A special feature of the watch is the minute repeater with jacks sounding when the hour strikes 4 o’clock, or any other combination the wearer has set, thus animating the figurines and activating the chimes of mi-do-re-sol.

The dial has been created as if a step down or like a crater, once again hinting that this event is engrained in the history of earth and the collective human mind and should not be forgotten, despite the whirlwind of time oscillating on. The skeleton Westminster Chimes tourbillon UN-78 calibre with warlike precision can be seen just below the curved slab of dark resilient granite at 6 o’clock, a glance away from the platinum crown at 3 o’clock. The timepiece is mechanically hand-wound and has an astounding power reserve of 70 hours, ensuring that one is always ready and poised for action.
