A Modern Take On Time: Custom iPhone Watch Attachments
Over the last two weeks at BaselWorld, we saw some incredible new timepieces. However, beyond the tourbillons and minute repeaters, we also saw a modern new take on incorporating watches into our gadget-obsessed world. Here, we have your look at two new iPhone watch attachments.
WATCHe, a company based in Switzerland, unveiled the We5S Limited Edition at BaselWorld. An articulated arm attaches a mechanical, hand-wound movement timepiece to the shell of an iPhone 5, which can also be displayed in conjunction with the iPhone when the arm is opened at a 15 degree angle. From there, the watch displays the time on the watch itself or on the iPhone screen. The 127 x 61 x 18 mm Swiss-made timepiece is a slick addition to any iPhone, made from AL 6082 anodized with a black Ruthenium coating, super-luminova hands. The timepiece component can also be removed from the iPhone and put on a traditional watch strap. The We5S will retail for CHF$5,555 (approximately US$6,000).
Meanwhile the Canadian company Bissol unveiled last week what they’re calling the world’s first mobile timepiece, a new concept in horology based on two new patents. The Swiss-made Calibre 788 movement is incorporated into a click-on attachment for the iPhone® 5. The case, which plugs into the USB port at the base of the phone, is comprised of anodized aluminum with painted sapphire crystal, while the gold-plated movement boasts a Quartz moon phase and 5 jewels.
