Louis Vuitton Introduces Hot New Tambour Damier Graphite Race
The Damier pattern is synonymous with Louis Vuitton. It was the man himself who designed this checkered pattern, which already decorated the trunks and suitcases the company made in the late 1800s. It most certainly stood the test of time, as it is today not only still in production but also in high demand as one of Louis Vuitton’s signature patterns. Additionally, it served as the source of inspiration for two new Tambour watches that come with a sportive twist.
Louis Vuitton’s skilled dial makers at La Fabrique du Temps, the brand’s manufacture in Switzerland, gave the century-old Damier motif a surprisingly modern twist by incorporating the V of Vuitton in neon-green, the signature style of Louis Vuitton’s artistic director for menswear, Virgil Abloh. This not only proves the timeless qualities of the Damier pattern but also its compatibility with modern and sportive designs. Louis Vuitton releases the new Tambour Damier Graphite Race in two different versions; a 46mm large chronograph and a smaller time-only model measuring 41.5mm in diameter.
For both watches, the iconic Tambour-case is made out of sandblasted stainless steel with an anthracite PVD coating. The crown is over-molded with black and neon green rubber, as a reference to not only the dial but also the rubber strap. Polished stainless steel lugs, and pushers for the chronograph, add a bit of contrast. Because the sapphire crystal is treated with an anti-reflective coating, the Damier pattern and the vibrant neon green V becomes even more apparent. We also find a sapphire crystal, slightly tinted and with the Louis Vuitton logo printed on it in black, at the back of the watch. Behind it, we can admire the automatic movements that power both watches. The chronograph, as well as the time only, are water-resistant up to 10ATM/100 meters, making them as versatile as they are stylish.
