Grand Seiko’s Soko Special Editions, Only For The USA
The beauty of a Grand Seiko can always be found in its subtleties. The brand invests a tremendous amount of time and effort into the smallest detail. This not only gives their watches a timeless appearance but also makes them a pure joy to have on the wrist. The wearing comfort is superb, and every day you can enjoy the refined details that make owning a Grand Seiko so special. This is also the case with the two new special editions which the brand just launched for the US market.
They are named after what the Japanese refer to as ‘sōkō,’ the end of Autumn when the temperatures drop, and the first frost comes around. The second hand of the watch, as well as the power reserve indicator, has a bright green color. This is a reference to the famous Arashiyama bamboo forest, which has been in Kyoto for over a thousand years. At the end of Autumn, this bamboo is at its peak, displaying a vibrant green color. The texture on the dials refers to the stalks of the bamboo, which are not only very tall but also filter the light, which makes walking through the forest a dream-like experience.
As mentioned before is Grand Seiko releasing the Sōkō US Special Edition in two varieties. What they both have in common is that they are powered by caliber 9R65, one of Grand Seiko’s Spring Drive calibers. While the watch is mechanical at heart, this technology allows it to deliver an accuracy that deviates only around 15 seconds per month. It has a power reserve of 72 hours, and Grand Seiko is offering the Sōkō US Special Edition with either a light or dark grey dial. Both watches feature a 39mm case and come on a stainless steel bracelet. They also come with an additional crocodile leather strap with a three-fold clasp, which allows you to change in a subtle yet distinct way the look of your watch.
