Patek Philippe Introduces New Annual Calendar Chronograph 5905 In Rose Gold

In 2015, Patek Philippe unveiled a new Annual Calendar Flyback Chronograph model in the form of the Ref. 5905 in platinum. And at Baselworld this year, a fresh rose gold version joined the lineup. Here’s a look at the brand new Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Chronograph Ref. 5905R.

Just like its platinum sibling, the Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Chronograph Ref. 5905R features a 42 mm case but this time in rose gold. Coming in at a hair over 14 mm in thickness, this is not a slim watch by any means—it has heft and presence on the wrist. There is also the duo of rectangular shaped chronograph pushers framing the winding crown on the right side of the case to activate the flyback chronograph hand. The concave rose gold bezel frames the face of the watch gracefully while also adding drama when looking at the Patek 5905R from the side.

The brown sunburst dial darkens to black towards the periphery, which offers great contrast for the outer minute track punctuated with lume plots. What’s more, the sector dial design lends a subtle vintage touch to the modern Patek Philippe watch. The center rose gold hands sweep around the dial to point to applied rose gold faceted baton indexes. Since the Patek Philippe Ref. 5905R utilizes a friction-free vertical clutch (rather than a lateral one), the center chronograph hand can run continuously as a seconds hand without impacting the movement.

The chronograph’s 60-minute counter sits at the 6 o’clock position and also houses a round day/night aperture. On the opposite side of the dial of the Patek 5905R are three windows arching across the top to indicate the day, the date, and the month. Of course, as an annual calendar watch, these calendar windows will only have to be manually reset once a year when February turns into March.

To match the darker shades of the gradient dial, the Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Chronograph Ref. 5905R is presented on a shiny black alligator strap with a rose gold prong buckle.

Patek Philippe Self-Winding Caliber 28-520

The sapphire exhibition caseback of the Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Chronograph Ref. 5905R allows us a view of the self-winding CH 28-520 QA 24H movement. Pairing the annual calendar and flyback chronograph complications, the Caliber 28-520 offers a power reserve range of 45 – 55 hours. In true Patek form, the 21k gold unidirectional central rotor is beautifully decorated with circular Côtes de Genève stripes and is marked with the brand’s famous Calatrava Cross.

This new rose gold version is the third model to join the Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Chronograph 5905 collection and sits handsomely alongside the black and blue platinum editions.
