The Teutonic Elegance Of The A.lange & Söhne Saxonia Automatik
Yes, we love highly complicated watches, but sometimes you want something pure and elegant, something understated yet with a powerful design, something like the Saxonia Automatik by A.lange & Söhne.
Despite the absence of the big date or an asymmetrical dial, the Saxonia Automatik can only be mistaken as an A.lange & Söhne. This is thanks to the straight forward designed dial, Teutonic case, and slender sword hands. With a diameter of 38.5mm A.lange & Söhne has found a balance between imposing wrist presence and understated elegance. It is just right and feels right on the wrist as well. This is also thanks to the very modest overall height of the Saxonia Automatik, which measures a mere 7.8mm. Next to add to the wearing comfort of the watch, it is also a secret sign among connoisseurs that this mechanical watch is of a different caliber (no pun intended).
While it lacks gold chatons, a favorite feature on many A.lange & Söhne, caliber L086.1 leaves very little to desire. Of course, it features a three-quarter plate, which is decorated with Glashütte ribbing and features hand chamfered and polished edges. The swan neck regulator is placed above a beautiful engraved balance cock, while blued screws provide an enticing color contrast. The rotor has the A.lange & Söhne-logo engraved on it in bold letters, while five screws secure a platinum rotor insert to make it more efficient. With all its traditional decorations the movement boasts a modern power reserve of 72 hours.
The A.lange & Söhne Saxonia Automatik seems to be the perfect watch of the brand to enjoy its typical German qualities in one of its most understated packages. It is available in pink gold, which makes it a traditional dress watch, but people who really enjoy getting under the radar will probably prefer the white gold version,
