Haute Complication: Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari Aperta
When Ferrari created the LaFerrari, they pushed the boundaries of what people come to expect from the brand even further away. The same does Hublot with their MP-collection, so when the two are combined in a single watch, you can expect something extraordinary.
Being extraordinary, for both the car and the watch, is a symbiosis of design and technical prowess. One cannot perform without the other. With the Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari Aperta, this becomes clear when you look at behind the lusciously shaped sapphire crystal. There you see the main attraction: eleven (11!) mainspring barrels, coupled in series, giving the watch a total power reserve of a whopping 50-days.
The power reserve can be read by means of two transparent display rolls on the left side of the watch. On the right side, you can see the hour and minute in the same way. Due to this visual spectacle would almost forget the fact that the MP-05 LaFerrari Aperta is also fitted with a suspended vertical tourbillon. All this is housed in a sapphire case, which is slightly smoked, giving it a unique and very high-tech appearance.
While you cannot call the LaFerrari a practical car, it is most certainly fun. This is where it differs from the Hublot. While being a very innovative watch, it is comfortable to wear. It is, of course, a statement on the wrist, but it will not punish you for choosing to make such a statement. In fact, wearing it on a daily basis is not at all out of the question, and actually something most owners will desire if it was only to glance as often as they can at the amazing movement housed inside its innovative case.
