Close Up: Zenith El Primero Stratos Flyback Rainbow
Zenith recently unveiled the El Primero Stratos Flyback Rainbow, and Haute Time got an exclusive look. This new model is a tribute to the Rainbow Flyback model that Zenith created in 1997, based on the technical specifications established for the French air force.
Just like the original, the new El Primero Stratos Flyback Rainbow is a rugged, high-performance chronograph capable of withstanding extreme conditions. It features a sporty 45mm case in steel, and a unidirectional rotating bezel with an aluminum disk.
The bezel features a tachometric scale, while the black dial features Arabic numerals and rhodium-plated hands coated with SuperLuminova. Functions include hours and minutes, a central chronograph hand, a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour counter and date indication at 6 o’clock, and small seconds at 9 o’clock. The 30-minute counter features the same colors as the original 1997 model.
Powering this chronograph is the El Primero 405 B, an automatic column-wheel movement with a 50-hour power reserve. This calibre has a frequency of 36,000 VpH (5 Hz) and is comprised of 331 components. The oscillating weight, which is visible via the sapphire crystal caseback, is finished with a Côtes de Genève pattern.
The El Primero Stratos Flyback Rainbow, known as reference 03.2061.405/21.M2060, is completed by a steel bracelet with a triple folding clasp.
