Madison Avenue Watch Week Kicks Off in New York City

photo
Today in New York City, the fourth annual Madison Avenue Watch Week got off to a grand start!

Watch Week brings together the brands with boutiques located on Madison Avenue between 57th Street and 86th Street, a strip which has become the epicenter of haute horlogerie in New York, and, indeed, North America.

Throughout the week, participating brands host exclusive events for collectors and offer a first look at this year’s new novelties. Participating brands include Chanel, Chopard, de Grisogono, F.P. Journe, Hublot, Montblanc, Officine Panerai and Vacheron Constantin.

Vacheron Constantin Fabuleux Ornements Chinese Embroidery
This new addition to Vacheron Constantin’s Métiers d’Arts women’s collection debuted at SIHH 2014. Housed in a 37mm 18K pink gold case, it features a hand-engraved stone-cloisonné pink opal dial with decorative flowers in ruby, garnet and cuprite. An off-center subdial, demarcated by diamonds, showcases the Caliber 1003 SQ/4 manual movement. The bezel is also set with diamonds. Functions include hours and minutes.

Chopard L.U.C Tourbillon QF Fairmined
The world’s first watch made of Fairmined gold, this new addition to the L.U.C collection is proof of Chopard’s commitment to ‘The Journey’ project. Launched in 2013, this project certifies that the gold used in this timepiece was extracted in a responsible manner and that the miners receive fair payment and an overall premium. It features a 43mm ‘Fairmined’ rose gold case, caseback and bezel.

F.P. Journe Élégante
The first ladies’ timepiece from famed watchmaker François-Paul Journe, the Élégante features the unique Calibre 1210. This electro-mechanical movement features a motion detector, which is visible on the dial at 5 o’clock. When the watch is not worn, it stops after about 30 minutes. In standby mode, the microprocessor continues to keep time, while the mechanical parts – gears, rotors and hands – stop moving in order to save energy. When the timepiece is put back on, it automatically sets itself to the correct time, taking the shortest path – either clockwise or counter clockwise.
