Pelé Helps Hublot Unveil the Official Watch of the 2014 World Cup
With just four months to go until the start of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Hublot has unveiled the game’s official watch. The manufacture, which is the Official Timekeeper of the Brazil World Cup, today unveiled the Hublot Big Bang Unico FIFA WC Official Watch.
Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, was joined at the unveiling in Tokyo, Japan by Pelé (AKA the King of Football) and Kuniya Daini, President of the Japanese Football Association.
Guadalupe commented on the unveiling, “Hublot is very proud to be the Official Timekeeper of the FIFA World Cup. This is the most important event on the planet, and its official watch is a Hublot Big Bang! All the fooball fans on all the continents will now recognize this timepiece as the symbol of the World Cup Brazil!”
The Official Watch of the World Cup, which is a Big Bang Unico Bi-Retrograde Chrono model, will be produced in two limited editions: 200 pieces in ceramic and 100 pieces in King Gold.
After the unveiling, which took place at the Japanese Football Association (JFA) House in Tokyo, Hublot organized a Charity Kick Target to raise money for the JFA benefiting victims of Japan’s 2011 earthquake and tsunami. Kids had the chance to score goals and raise money – even Mr. Guadalupe gave it a try! The event raised JPY¥3,000,000 (approximately US$29,316).
For Pelé the unveiling and charity event were especially meaningful as it was his first visit to the country since 2011, when he came to support the Japanese people in the wake of the earthquake.
Pelé commented, “Today was especially memorable, not only because I am here in Tokyo with Hublot, but because we were able to give back to the children and future of football in Japan. I’m so thrilled to see how Hublot has managed to put together the passion for football and the fervor of Brazil into such an extraordinary piece. I can’t wait for World Cup competition to start!”
