Carmelo Anthony’s Haute Time Watch of the Day: Parmigiani Fleurier Toric Resonance 3
The Toric Resonance 3 is a hand-wound minute repeater with several distinguishing features. What you notice first is the large date. Parmigiani says it is the largest instantaneous date display in the watch world, measuring 5.9mm wide – 2.9mm for each numeral. These large numerals require huge amounts of energy to activate and then stop them without rebound following the instantaneous jump. This is accomplished by a double cam system. The first accumulates energy to arm the large lever, releasing it every 24 hours onto a 31-tooth wheel. The second cam serves as a brake, controlling a spring-mounted lever to keep the large date disks permanently immobile, releasing them for just a fraction of a second every 24 hours to allow the instantaneous jump.
The elegant dial features black lacquered hands and markers, and is decorated with a wavy guilloché pattern that is mimicked by the serpent shape of the blued cathedral chimes on the caseback. The case is made of three parts, with an extended middle for greater balance and a coin-edged upper section and bezel. The Caliber PF359 is a manual-wound, cathedral chime minute repeater with a 48-hour power reserve. Like all Parmigiani timepieces with leather straps, the strap is made by Hermès.
